Leaf is taking over Simon Rimmer's The Viking in West Kirby

Liverpool's Leaf is set to takeover TV chef Simon Rimmer's former pub in Wirral.

The Viking Pub and Bakehouse in West Kirby closed in October 2019 after a notice on the restaurant's website stated 'recent challenging times' were to blame for the closure.

Leaf has now taken over the premises on Black Horse Hill and will serve up a variety of food and drink including more than 70 teas, breakfasts, brunches and lunches, as well as an exciting evening programme of craft gins, cocktails, craft beers and fine wines.

The move to West Kirby follows the successful launch of Leaf on Smithdown Road in south Liverpool, marking an exciting next chapter for the family-run business.

Owner and founder of Leaf Natalie Haywood told the ECHO: "Our new home in the much-loved Viking site feels wonderful already and we are really excited about working closely with the local community to deliver a distinctive events programme throughout the year.

"With an acoustic stage downstairs and flexible event space upstairs - it's perfect for all sorts of occasions and we can't wait to open the doors.”

Leaf began as a small tea shop run by friends in a Liverpool city centre gallery in 2007 and Leaf on Bold Street opened in 2010.

In 2015, Leaf opened a sister venue on Portland Street in Manchester. Their venues also include Oh Me Oh My, One Fine Day and The Garden by Leaf at FACT.

Leaf West Kirby is due to open in mid February and are looking for staff including an assistant manager, chefs, waiters and bar tenders. They will be holding a recruitment day on Wednesday, January 15 at the new site at 19 Black Horse Hill in West Kirby.
