Leading data analyst predicts final Championship table - where Bristol City, Leeds United, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough finish

Bristol City need not sweat over their place in the play-offs.

That's the opinion of Nate Silver, a leading data analyst, whose website Five Thirty Eight has created a data model to find out how the Championship will finish.

It is good news for the Robins, despite their defeat to Aston Villa.

Lee Johnson's men are predicted to finish sixth, on 72 points - one point ahead of Middlesbrough in seventh and three points clear of Derby County in eighth.

The probability of City making the play-offs has taken a bit of a check from the Villa defeat - it has dropped to 58 per cent, but that is still much higher than the 27 per cent of Middlesbrough or the 20 per cent of Derby.

Villa's victory means they have been given a massive 94 per cent chance of making the play-offs now.

Elsewhere in the prediction, Norwich City will still win the title, despite their recent dropped points, finishing three points clear of Leeds United in second.

Leeds have been given an 85 per cent chance of being promoted following their recent form.

Sheffield United are predicted to finish third, three points off Leeds, and have a 49 per cent chance of being promoted.

At the other end of the table, Rotherham United and Bolton Wanderers are predicted to be relegated alongside Ipswich.
