Edith Bryan, communications officer at Supertemps Ltd, explains why Sarah Ellwood should win the Leader of the Year category of the Guardian Small Business Showcase competition:
Sarah Ellwood is a hardworking, dedicated and refreshingly positive business leader who runs North Wales’ longest established recruitment agency, Supertemps.
Sarah’s mother Dorothy Patterson set up Supertemps from her kitchen table back in 1980. Sarah joined in 1998 and has since developed it into a highly successful and well respected company which now employs 16 staff, across two branches and is continually evolving.
The team wanted to nominate Sarah for this award, because she is constantly rewarding and encouraging us all for our hard work and achievements, yet nobody ever gives her a pat on the back to say well done. Sarah deserves to be recognised for all of her achievements and successes, as well as the strength and resilience she has shown over the years. A truly inspiring business leader, for all of us in the team and for many people across the region.
Even when the pressure is on, Sarah always keeps the team’s spirits high and takes time out of her own busy schedule to support us all to do better. Sarah will never criticise her staff, instead she motivates the team, and always listens to our ideas, needs and feedback. The whole ethos of the company is based on core ‘family business’ values.
Sarah has become a highly respected business leader in North Wales, through her friendly, person-centred approach to business and her ongoing contribution to the local community.
All entries which meet the competition criteria are published and our judging panel select a shortlist of the top three for each category. Winners are announced at an awards ceremony in summer 2016.
