Matt Wheatcroft, managing director of Purpose Media UK Limited, explains why he should win the Leader of the Year category of the Guardian Small Business Showcase competition:
Purpose Media is a highly successful full service digital marketing agency, founded in 2009. Since then, the company’s turnover has doubled each year and now employs 30 people, and owns two office complexes. The company achieved 66% growth last year, building a lasting legacy of recurring revenue from customers on consultancy retainers.
In 2015, I broke three vertebrae in my neck while on holiday, but returned to work after three weeks to implement a business plan to achieve sustained growth by 2020. This plan is well underway following the acquisition of a creative design agency and video production company – all within the last six months. Further acquisitions are in progress to bring social media, content, PR and photographic expertise in house. The aim is that customers who want to be successful online will have access to a one-stop-shop of digital marketing specialists.
My achievements include winning awards such as the Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year, Best New Business, Entrepreneur of the Year, Team of the Year and Apprentice of the Year awards.
I am decisive, fair and very driven. All of the business’s growth has been organic, self funded and has been achieved without the need to borrow, use an overdraft or forego a salary.
All entries which meet the competition criteria are published and our judging panel select a shortlist of the top three for each category. Winners are announced at an awards ceremony in summer 2016.
