Rebecca Bull, HR Consultant at my hr hub, explains why John Stallard, managing director of Warlord Games should win the Leader of the Year category of the Guardian Small Business Showcase competition:
John Stallard is an inspiring leader, he knows how to motivate his team and is someone that his team want to follow.
He has built his business from his kitchen table six years ago and now employs 65 staff. He is keen to work with the community and has since outsourced work to the local prison in Nottingham, with the mantra that ‘everyone deserves a second chance’.
He knows all of his staff by name, invites them to his home to eat, socialise and play a game of toy soldiers (this is his line of business). He is inspiring, cheerful, focused and always looks after his employees.
His leadership style is unique and the employees love working for him. He gives the team autonomy, space to be creative, respect, and allows them to be just who they are.
All entries which meet the competition criteria are published and our judging panel select a shortlist of the top three for each category. Winners are announced at an awards ceremony in summer 2016.
