I’d like to nominate our MD James Whatmore. Since completing a management buy out in April 2013 James has transformed our business.
Before the buy out we weren’t profitable and moral was low. Now James has turned this around and we have doubled in size, the company is fully resourced and on a clear path to rapid growth.
The first thing he did was to move the business from a drab industrial area to the Custard Factory in Birmingham, a modern, vibrant working environment. He then set about improving the business by working closely with each department to maximise resource and provide each individual with clear roles, responsibilities and targets.
Since James completed a small business course (Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses) he has implemented a completely new working culture – and the vision of the business has been defined and communicated.
Staff have been empowered to make decisions, and daily stand-up meetings ensure that we are all aware of what each other is doing.
James also understands the need for a healthy work/life balance. Flexible working has been allocated to those with difficult journeys or young children, and colleagues meet socially at least once a month at Digbeth Dining Club.
James has succeeded in building a committed team that will deliver the company vision, to be the number one recognised service management software product in the UK by December 2017.
