Business name: Purpol Marketing
Based: Chippenham

Person nominated: Denise O’Leary, managing director
Denise O’Leary set up Purpol Marketing in March 2014, identifying a gap in the market for marketing director-level expertise on a pay-as-you-go basis. With no previous experience of running a business and no poached clients she started from scratch.
Under her leadership, Purpol celebrated its first birthday with finalist status in the Enterprising Wiltshire Awards and Wiltshire Business of the Year Awards, and beat its initial turnover target by 180%.
Purpol’s trading model has made advice affordable to SMEs – especially for specialist know-how in bid management for government public procurement.
Denise is not resting on her laurels, having formed a partnership with another award-winning local business, Sales Coaching Solutions, to help local firms win government contracts. This joint initiative provides practical and valuable insight into how SMEs can effectively bid for local authority contracts.
Denise is leading Purpol into new business areas, driving revenue growth and building on her network of marketing associates to recruit additional in-house marketing expertise for the first time. With more than 1,600 LinkedIn connections and an extended network reaching 16m professionals, Purpol measures success not by what they win, but by how much their clients win.
