'Lead us back to the promise land' - Nottingham Forest fans buoyant at contract news

Championship football is set to return after a three-month absence and with just days to go before Nottingham Forest face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, the Reds have been boosted with some good news.

Defender Michael Dawson has agreed a new one-year deal to keep him at the City Ground and fans are jubilant that the popular centre-back will be staying beyond the end of the month.

The 36-year-old admitted to Nottinghamshire Live that he wanted to finish his career on Trentside, and says he’s pleased that’ll be the case, after agreeing terms to see him remain for at least the next 12 months.

“It was always in the club’s hands. If they offered me something, I was always wanting to stay,” he told NottinghamshireLive via Zoom.

“I said two years ago when I signed that I was hoping I could finish my career at  Nottingham Forest , and I’ll certainly be doing that.

“Playing next year… I’m here and we’ll see what happens after that.

“But more importantly, for the next nine games, we know the importance of them and where we want them to take us.

“Fingers crossed we can do that.”

Here’s what fans have been saying about Dawson’s new contract…
