Lea Michele has opened up about her relationships with fellow Glee cast members in a recent appearance on Jake Shane’s podcast Therapuss on Thursday, describing them as “fractured”.
When Shane, 25, asked Michele, 38, if the show’s ensemble cast “banded together” after the untimely death of her co-star and boyfriend Cory Monteith, Michele was quick to reply with a succinct “no”.

“I think in some ways it did for certain people, but I think that, for me, it was so hard,” Michele said.
“I just completely broke. I was really in a one-track mind of just doing my job. It was way too much to try to process at such a young age.
“It really fractured so much.”
Monteith died of an accidental drug overdose in 2013, and he and Michele were in a romantic relationship for over a year at the time. The show then incorporated Monteith’s shocking death, beginning with season five’s “The Quarterback”.
In the podcast Michele also revealed that following Monteith’s death, a tour bus used to come in front of her house and loudly discuss the details of the late-star’s death.
“It was the tour of people [who] have died,” Michele said.
“Ater everything happened, this bus would come by. Every day I would hear these details, and eerie music would be playing from the tour bus.”

Michele was previously called out by some of her fellow Glee co-stars for how she treated them behind-the-scenes.
“LMAO remember when you made my first television gig a living hell?!?!” Samantha Ware tweeted — directed towards Michele — in 2020. Ware portrayed character Jane Hayward in the show’s sixth season.
“Cos I’ll never forget. I believe you told everyone if [you] had the opportunity you would ‘shit in my wig!’ Amongst other traumatic micro-agressions that made me question a career in Hollywood…”
Shortly after, Michele made an Instagram post apologising to Ware.
“While I don’t remember making this specific statement and I have never judged anyone by their background or colour,” the post read.
“That’s really not the point, what matters is that I clearly acted in ways that hurt other people.”
Michele was also called out by Heather Morris (who played Brittany S. Pearce) and Amber Riley (Mercedes Jones). Morris described Michele as “very unpleasant” to work with, and Riley hinted that Michele “terrorised” Black actors and actresses on the show.

Michele also jokingly addressed the long-standing rumour that she “cannot read”, which has been fodder for meme accounts for years.
She revealed that it was her former boss and Glee creator, Ryan Murphy, who originally told her about the wild rumour.
“Ryan Murphy called me, and he was like, ‘Have you heard this rumor?’ And I was like, ‘No, what’s going on?” she said.
“There are moments I get so frustrated because I’m one of the only women in my whole family to get accepted to college.”
She then read aloud words from Shane’s cue cards, seemingly ending the rumour once and for all — but knowing the internet, we can probably assume that it won’t be the last time she’s faced with accusations of illiteracy.
