Le’Veon Bell will not play in Jets’ preseason opener

Jets fans will have to wait a bit longer to get their first glimpse of star running back Le’Veon Bell in action.

Bell will not play against the Giants in Week 1 of the preseason as Adam Gase and company continue to manage his workload leading up to the regular season. Bell will be in the building to warm up with his new teammates at his request, but will not suit up for the game.

The Jets are being cautious with the former Pro Bowl running back, who sat out all of 2018 and has not played a preseason game in general since 2016. Team officials don’t seem to be keen on playing him anytime soon, making it unlikely that Bell sees game action before Week 1 of the regular season.

As Bell works on getting back into the mix of things, he felt it was important  that he is there for his teammates and Adam Gase agreed. Bell will warm up with his teammates pregame as he continues to get acclimated to his new surroundings.

While New York’s starters will likely only play one or two series against the Giants, the Jets are going to stick to their plan regarding Bell’s workload. While that plan hasn’t exactly been made public, it’s clear that Gang Green will be extra cautious with a player who they view to be a focal point of the team’s offense.
