Le’Veon Bell vs. James Conner: Who has a better 2019 season?

After taking a season off, New York Jets running back Le’Veon Bell is finally going to get back on the field in 2019. The former Pittsburgh Steelers running back headed out for greener pastures in free agency and this will be the first offseason the team can prepare for a rushing attack that doesn’t include Bell and only James Conner.

The comparisons between the two are inevitable this season. Both guys will be the focal point of their team’s rushing attacks and both guys are excellent receivers. But who finishes with the better season?

On paper, it might be easy to just say Bell will be better. The Jets are going to lean heavily on him with a questionable offense. But for Conner, this will be a full offseason to prepare without looking over his shoulder for Bell. This also makes the coaches’ jobs easier as they can develop a plan custom-made for Conner and not Bell.

Conner averaged 113 yards of offense per game last season in only 13 games. At that pace, he would have finished with 1,808 yards from scrimmage had he not gotten injured. There’s no reason to believe he won’t match that number this season.
