Le’Veon Bell on the Steelers: ‘Pittsburgh had something special and they let it go’

The breakup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and running back Le’Veon Bell was ugly. It took more than a year for it to happen and when it did, everyone felt like they were better off. The Steelers made multiple good faith efforts to keep Bell on the team but ultimately there was no common ground to be reached.

Now Bell is the starting running back for the New York Jets and the Steelers have James Conner powering the run game. But Bell seems to still be thinking about the Steelers judging by his latest comments in USA Today.

Saying the Steelers let him go is an interesting way to characterize how things ended. The reality is the Steelers offered Bell a better contract than he ultimately got from the Jets. And once you factor in a full season on the franchise tag Bell forfeited voluntarily, it’s hard to see Bell ever recouping what he lost.

Bell seems to be playing the season with some sort of faux chip on his shoulder for imaginary wrongs done to him by the Steelers.
