Le’Veon Bell explains why he never showed up for the Steelers

The 2018 season was a rollercoaster for the Pittsburgh Steelers and running back Le’Veon Bell. Bell continued to string the franchise along while he held out, eventually quitting on the team completely and forfeiting his entire salary. But he didn’t do it for the reasons you might have thought.

Originally, it was believed Bell kept putting off his debut because he had hard feelings over the comments his former teammates made about his absence. It’s a fair assumption to make considering the ego of Bell.

But according to ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler, it was ignorance of the CBA and not hubris that kept Bell away. According to Fowler, Bell planned to show up in Week 7, not to help his team but just to be sure his season counted. However, once he found out he didn’t have to be there for the season to count, there was no more motivation for him to join his teammates.

Does this realization change anyone’s opinion of Bell is all this? Bell signed a free-agent contract with the New York Jets and will see the Steelers this season when Pittsburgh goes on the road to play the Jets.
