France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian affirmed Paris’ respect for Islam, stressing that Muslims are part of the French Republic.

Le Drian statements came during two separate phone calls he held with the secretary-generals of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The French FM also highlighted his country’s keenness to support dialogue and cooperation with the OIC.

The officials further discussed a number of other issues of common interest.

For his part, Othaimeen reaffirmed OIC’s firm position in terms of rejecting extremism and terrorism, saying it has no religion nor nationality.

However, he also stressed that freedom of expression doesn’t mean offending followers of religions or religious figures.
