LBC radio host Iain Dale dramatically storms off Good Morning Britain set mid-debate

Iain Dale stormed off the Good Morning Britain set today after claiming he wasn’t allowed to speak during a debate.

The LBC radio presenter dramatically stood up, took off his microphone and swaggered out of the studio as hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway urged him to stay and continue.

Iain was taking part in a discussion about the teenage attacker of a six-year-old boy who was thrown from the Tate Modern's 10th floor.

Jonty Bravery, who has autism, has admitted attempted murder and is due to be sentenced later this month.

Iain went up against two other guests, economics commentator Grace Blakeley and Nihal Arthanayake.

Grace cited government cuts in children's mental health services and austerity as being the problem while Nihal added that cuts meant Bravery did not get assigned a care worker to chaperone him everywhere,

Iain branded their arguments as "utter, utter rubbish".

He said: "It's nothing to do with cuts, it's to do with people doing the sensible thing and reporting something.

“You don't have to have thousands of pounds to be able to be sensible."

But that’s just about all he managed to say before the other two took issue with his comments.

"To just sweep that away without any facts and just say, 'oh, it's not about resources'." said Nihal.

Grace said: “The children’s commissioner has spoken about this frequently about the parlous state of children’s social care.”

Iain tried to but in but Grace spoke over him.

She continued: “The expert has been appointed to analyse this issue.”

“Ok I won’t speak,” managed Ian.

Grace held her hands up in disbelief and laughed as Iain sat there stony faced.

“Ok, right,” he said, before standing up and taking his mic off.

"No, no, no, Iain, don't go," said Ben.

“We’d like you to speak,” added Kate.

“Wow. What a fit of pique. What a grown-up you are,” said Nihal.

He added: “He's a West Ham fan though.”

Grace chipped in with: “Can you no-platform yourself?”

Kate continued: "That's a shame because I would like to have heard what Iain had to say."

"We do appreciate Iain's views on all sorts of issues," added Ben.

Over on Twitter, Iain claimed he was “closed down” during the discussion and said it “wasn’t worth hanging around."

He tweeted: "I enjoy my early mornings on @GMB with @Jacqui_Smith1 because they’re all about civilised discussion. Today’s was not. It was about closing me down," he wrote.

"I decided it wasn't worth hanging around. Apologies to @kategarraway, @benshephard & @CharlotteHawkns but enough is enough."

GMB airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
