LBC presenter’s Tilly Ramsay bodyshaming comments probed by Ofcom

Media regulatory body Ofcom have confirmed they are assessing complaints made about LBC radio presenter Steve Allen called Tilly Ramsay a 'chubby little thing'.

The 67-year-old host said to his listeners: ‘She’s a chubby little thing, isn’t she? Have you noticed? Probably her dad’s cooking, I should imagine.’

A spokesperson for media watchdog Ofcom told Metro.co.uk : ‘We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.’

Tilly issued a statement on Steve’s remarks saying she ‘won’t tolerate people that think it’s okay to publicly comment and scrutinise anyone’s weight and appearance’.

The strictly star reminded him that she is still a teenager, and penned on Instagram: "I try not to read and listen to comments and negativity however recently being called out on a national radio station by a 67-year-old man is a step too far.

"Steve please feel free voice your opinions however I draw the line at commenting on my appearance.

"It’s such a shame that someone is trying to make such a positive experience negative.

"This isn’t the first and definitely won’t be the last comment made about my appearance and I accept that and I’m learning to accept myself.

"But please remember that words can hurt and at the end of the day I am only 19 and I’m so grateful for all the amazing opportunities I have been able to take part in and I understand that being in the public eye obviously comes with its own repercussions and I’ve been aware of this from a young age.

"However, I won’t tolerate people that think it’s okay to publicly comment and scrutinise anyone’s weight and appearance."

Tilly has received overwhelming support from fans and fellow celebs since calling out Steve Allen.

Harry Potter star Evanna Lynch hit out at Steve on today’s episode of Lorraine, saying it is ‘not the business’ of a male radio DJ to make ‘reductive’ remarks on her appearance.

‘Stop commenting on people’s appearances – it’s not their business, and judging people by their appearance, there’s just so much more to women, there’s so much more to people.

‘It’s very reductive and that woman has so much more to her and she’s showing so much more. Why is he focusing on that?

‘I do also believe that saying “chubby” as a derogatory word or “fat” or whatever… it’s just a size. We all have to get over our fatphobia, it’s not the worst thing you can be.’

Comedian Jason Manford also spoke up on the matter on Twitter and slammed the radio host for his comments.

He wrote: "I see that bitter old p***k @steveallenshow is trying stay relevant again, this time by criticising a teenage girls’ body on his shit radio show.

"I’d love to see Tilly’s Dad rock up at LBC and give this troll the tongue lashing he deserves. Awful man, terrible outdated broadcaster."

Son of sports legend Gary Lineker, George furiously penned on Twitter: "See that vile excuse of a bloke Steve Allen been attacking Tilly Ramsay.

"Not fussed if he has a go at me whenever he can but saying that about a 19 year old girl is far too low. Reckon the guy needs help, disgusting.

"Probably has a go at everyone tbf, just no one listens to his show. Jealous fella angry with the world. Wish him well."
