LB Xavier Woodson-Luster is catching the attention of Texans coaches

The Houston Texans already have talented 3-4 inside linebackers in Benardrick McKinney and Zach Cunningham. However, Xavier Woodson-Luster has been able to turn a few heads in training camp.

The former Oakland Raider, Buffalo Bill, and Cleveland Brown has produced two interceptions in the past two days of camp, according to reports.

The Texans already have high level talent in the middle, but being able to have a veteran like Woodson-Luster gives Houston confidence in their depth.

“Woodson-Luster works hard,” coach Bill O’Brien told reporters Sunday at Methodist Training Center. “He’s another guy that works hard on special teams, has picked up the defense well. He shows up on film. We’ll see how he does in the games, but he’s a grinder. He shows up every day and puts the time in and he’s done some good things.”

Houston already has a solid contributor in the middle of their linebacking corps with Dylan Cole. However, with the departure of Brian Peters at the end of the 2018 season, the Texans could use another linebacker in case Cole or Cunningham have to miss time, as was the case last season.

Woodson-Luster has been active for 18 games in his career, recording eight combined tackles with five of them solo.

The Texans have six more practices, two of them joint sessions with the Green Bay Packers, before preseason begins. When the exhibition games kickoff, that is when Woodson-Luster could stand to have another couple of plays that catch the coaches’ attention.
