With the rosters cut down to 53 players, a pair of Arizona Cardinals changed their uniform numbers. Linebacker Dennis Gardeck ditched the No. 92 he wore all last season and rookie safety Jalen Thompson gave up the No. 38 he had in training camp and the preseason.
For the season opener, they used their new numbers.
Gardeck wore now has No. 42, while Thompson has No. 34.
With Gardeck’s hair and the intensity with which he plays, wearing No. 42 will surely remind people of former Cardinals player Pat Tillman. He wore No. 40 for the Cardinals but 42 for Arizona State. His No. 40 is now retired.
