LB Colton Jumper seals comeback win over Chargers with last-minute INT

It was ugly, but a win is a win. The New Orleans Saints took down the Los Angeles Chargers with a big comeback in their preseason game, having at one point trailed 17-3, and clinched victory with an impressive interception. Reserve quarterback Taysom Hill put his athleticism on display with some crafty running and throwing, and ended up giving the Saints a 19-17 lead.

The Chargers received the ball with about a minute left in regulation, and initially made some big gains, but rookie quarterback Easton Stick was pressured into an ill-advised throw directly into Saints linebacker Colton Jumper’s coverage zone.

Jumper leaped at the opportunity and secured the turnover, streaking towards the end zone with blockers ahead of him. He ended up crossing the goal line before being mobbed by a crowd of cheering teammates, but their jubilation was short-lived: a penalty flag signalling an illegal block wiped out the would-be touchdown, giving the Saints possession but not yet the win. A kneel-out by Hill guaranteed that, and New Orleans left with its first victory in the preseason.
