LB Andrew Van Ginkel wants to return to Dolphins in 2024

The Miami Dolphins ended their year with a sour taste in their mouths after losing their final three games, including a wild-card battle with the Kansas City Chiefs that knocked them out of the playoffs.

However, there was still a lot to be impressed with throughout the year, including the play of linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel, who’s set to become a free agent.

With the edge position up in the air for the Dolphins’ future, they’d be wise to consider retaining the former Wisconsin Badger, and he wants to play in aqua and orange again, according to his agent Drew Rosenhaus.

“The latest with Andrew is we feel good about the season that he had,” Rosenhaus told WSVN’s Josh Moser. “He’s going to be ready to go for the offseason. We’re excited about the possibility of him coming back to the Dolphins, although he’s a free agent, so anything’s a possibility. But, he’d like to come back and was a great fit in Vic Fangio’s scheme. We’ll just have to see as we get closer to March 13, which is the first day of free agency.”

Van Ginkel had a career year in 2023, recording 69 tackles, 19 quarterback hits, six sacks (career-high), eight passes defensed (career-high), one interception and a fumble recovery.

Unfortunately, his season ended abruptly as a foot injury in the regular-season finale against the Buffalo Bills landed him on injured reserve. That’s not how he wants his time to end in Miami,

The Dolphins are significantly over the projected cap for the 2024 season at the moment, but if they can create some space, Van Ginkel should be someone that they look to retain for the foreseeable future.
