Lazy, irresponsible pet owners blasted after junior player left covered in dog mess

A rugby club has criticised "totally lazy and irresponsible" pet owners after a junior rugby player came off a pitch covered in mess.

The boy was pictured with dog mess on his top and all up his leg during a game for one of the youth teams of Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd at Pontcanna Fields, Cardiff, on Sunday morning (November 7).

The Cardiff-based club shared the pictures on social media saying: "This is totally unacceptable and in excusable. This morning's games had to get stopped to clean up a child as a result of you not cleaning up your dog mess.

"Totally lazy and irresponsible behaviour by some dog owners using Pontcanna Fields."

Sian Poole, the chairwoman of the club's minis and juniors, said they regularly had to clean up mess from the pitches.

"We take along a bucket and special spade to the matches because it happens all the time," she said. "It is absolutely disgusting. I have got dogs myself and we always clear up after them.

"You can tell that they are football and rugby pitches and they are used all the time at the weekends. There is just no excuse for it. The poor boy was covered, it was absolutely vile and totally unacceptable."

Dogs fouling on sports pitches is a general issues with some councils banning dogs from all sports pitches, schools and play areas.

In Cardiff, you can face an ‘on the spot' fixed penalty of £100 if you are caught not cleaning up after your dog.
