Lazio vs Celtic: Italians handed stadium closure for Europa League match and fine for racist behaviour

The Stadio Olimpico will be part-closed for the Europa League match ( EPA )

Celtic’s Europa League match against Lazio in Rome will take place in a part-closed Stadio Olimpico after the Italian club were handed a charge by Uefa for racist behaviour.

The charge relates to fan behaviour during the Biancocelesti's 2-1 win over French club Rennes on October 3.

Scottish champions Celtic host Lazio on October 24 but will then travel to the Italian capital on November for the return Group E match, with the stadium part closed.

In a statement, UEFA announced that Lazio will be required to display a banner containing the wording ‘£EqualGame’ and the UEFA logo in the closed section of the stadium.

Lazio have been fined 20,000 euros (£17,300).

UEFA has also ordered the Italian club to play one additional UEFA competition match behind closed doors, with that sanction suspended for one year.
