Lazio star Marco Parolo has pinned his side's Europa League exit firmly on Celtic after losing home and away to the Scottish champions.
The Biancocelesti were favourites to win Group E but lost in Rennes last night to finish third with only six points.
Going into the match the Serie A side still had a chance of going through but their vice-captain admits qualification was lost long before last night.
Parolo told LazioStyleChannel: "Qualification was lost with the two defeats to Celtic .
"Given how it went it's right that we were eliminated. We took six points out of 18 and clearly with that you won't go through.
"Today shouldn't have been the crucial game, we have to hope this can serve as a lesson.
"We didn't do it but we played two excellent games against Celtic and took nothing."
Lazio's form in Serie A this season shows just how big an achievement the two wins were for the Hoops.
They currently sit third, five points behind leaders Inter, and last weekend became the first team to beat Juventus this season.
