Lazio respond to UEFA charge as Celtic fans face anxious wait for Europa League tickets

Lazio insist they will ban any supporters found guilty of racist chanting after a UEFA charge which could see Celtic fans miss out on their away game in Rome.

The Italian side have been cited for alleged racist behaviour by fans in the Europa League match with Rennes, and the Stadio Olimpico could be closed for their next game as a result.

That would mean Celtic fans would be unable to attend next month's match in Rome, following the home game against the Serie A giants on October 24.

Looking to head off any such action, Lazio have made clear that they'll ban any fans engaging in such behaviour, as well as pursuing them legally.

A statement reads: "S. S Lazio announces that it has received from UEFA a charge concerning the behaviour of some supporters responsible for having engaged in acts defined as racist.

"In confirming that it will defend its reputation and tradition, the club announces that it has immediately set in motion initiatives aimed at finding those responsible, and will rigorously apply the code of ethics to remove the perpetrators from the stadium.

"It should be noted that the club, in order to protect its own interests, will be a civil party in the legal process against those who, following investigations carried out by the police, are found to be liable."

A judgement from UEFA will be handed down on October 17.
