Lazio receive Celtic boost as key man returns to training ahead of Europa League clash

Lazio have received an injury boost ahead of next week's Celtic game, as Joaquin Correa returns to training.

The 25-year-old had been struggling with a calf injury, which forced him to miss the Europa League game with Rennes as well as his international commitments with Argentina.

On Monday and Tuesday he participated only in the morning tactical session, as Lazio took no risks with his recovery.

Today though LaLazioSiamoNoi states that he took part in the entire session with his teammates at the Formello training centre.

Coach Simone Inzaghi also had his international players available again, as Tomas Strakosha, Francesco Acerbi, Ciro Immobile, Luiz Felipe, Adam Marusic and Luis Alberto returned to training after the break.

Lazio face Atalanta on Saturday afternoon, before a trip to Celtic Park on the following Thursday.

The Stadio Olimpico will be partially closed for the match, with UEFA ordering that the Curva Nord be shut after a section of fans made fascist salutes in the previous match with Rennes.

However, the Serie A club have reserved the right to appeal that decision.

A statement read: "The decisions of the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body, in reference to the behavior of some fans during the meeting between S.S. Lazio and Stade Rennais F.C constitute a harsh sanction which seems not to have taken into account the prompt and clear condemnation from the Biancocelesti club against the hateful racist acts of a few irresponsible people.

"At the same time, the sentence reinforces the desire of S.S. Lazio to continue with the policy of ‘zero tolerance’ which has been established by president Claudio Lotito.

"The club also reaffirms its intention to prosecute criminally and civilly those responsible for unacceptable acts which cause not only serious damage to the image and history of S.S. Lazio but heavily punish the overwhelming majority of a fanbase which has always been extraneous to and against the racist excesses of a small minority.

“Despite this, S.S. Lazio reserve the right to present an appeal against the UEFA decisions to reduce the punishments which have largely fallen on the vast majority of those virtuous and responsible supporters."
