Lazio bosses accuse Man City great David Silva of disrespect with furious club statement

Lazio chiefs have released a furious statement accusing David Silva of disrespecting the club.

The Spaniard has ended his time with Manchester City on Saturday after their 3-1 loss to Lyon in the Champions League quarter-finals.

It brought his decade in Manchester to an end and City revealed on Monday they would honour the playmaker with a statue outside the Etihad Stadium alongside fellow cult hero Vincent Kompany.

On Monday night, Silva announced he had penned a two-year deal with Real Sociedad, moving back to La Liga after joining City from Valencia.

The 34-year-old had also been linked with a move to Italy with Lazio and they were left furious after Silva's next club was announced.

The Serie A outfit had reportedly held extensive talks with Silva and offered him a deal worth almost £4m-a-season, along with the use of a private jet to fly back to Spain.

However, Lazio claim they were never informed of Silva's final decision and were therefore stunned to see his deal with Sociedad announced.

It prompted a sharp 21-word statement on the club website with their hierarchy furious at the lack of transparency over the snub.

Sporting director Igli Tare wrote on the club's website: "I learn about David Silva's transfer to Real Sociedad. I have great respect for the player, but not for the man."

The Serie A club were clearly confident Silva would arrive in Italy, with star striker Ciro Immobile quoted last week saying: "Great player and great experience, we are waiting for him with open arms.

"I can't wait for him to arrive, before Lazio players we are Lazio fans."
