Lawyer says XFL trademarked 5 potential names for Seattle team

Seattle’s latest sports franchise, an XFL team that will play its games at CenturyLink Field, is closer to getting a name.

Trademark lawyer Josh Gerben tweeted today that the league filed for trademarks on five potential team names: Wild, Fury, Dragons, Surge and Force.

While the trademarks don’t necessarily mean the team name will be one of those five, they do seem to at least give an idea of what direction the league is heading.

They are also similar to the ones used in the XFL in 2001, which had team names like the Los Angeles Xtreme, Orlando Fury and San Francisco Demons.

Jim Zorn, the coach of the Seattle team, indicated at the XFL Summer Showcase tryout this month that the team plans to unveil its color scheme and name sometime in July, so fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out.
