Lawrence Shankland set to miss Scotland double-header as Steve Clarke faced with striker decision

Dundee United striker Lawrence Shankland will not take part in Scotland's Nations League double-header against Israel and the Czech Republic.

The frontman helped fire United to the Scottish Championship title last term but has missed every game of their return season in the Premiership - bar the opening day draw with St Johnstone - thanks to an ankle injury.

National manager Steve Clarke had called up Shankland in the hope he would be able to recover in time.

But after missing out again against Kilmarnock on Saturday it's clear he will not be fit to play.

Clarke may look to call up a replacement, with QPR's Lyndon Dykes and Sheffield United target man Oli McBurnie the only other recognised strikers in his squad, although Oliver Burke of West Brom has previously filled in at the number nine slot in the past.

Scotland face Israel at Hampden Park on Friday before travelling to the Czech Republic for the away fixture three days later.
