Lawrence Shankland injury update as Dundee United lose top-scorer to muscle tear

Dundee United star Lawrence Shankland faces weeks on the sidelines after he tore a thigh muscle while away with Scotland.

The on-form striker suffered the injury while in the warm-up ahead of Saturday’s win in Cyprus.

He has netted 17 goals in the league this season – more than half of Robbie Neilson side’s total of 33.

Shankland pulled out of the Scotland squad for the home win over Kazakhstan to get treatment, with Eamonn Brophy replacing him.

Scan results have now come back and shown that the 24-year-old has suffered a small tear.

It is a major blow for Dundee United as top-scorer Shankland now faces several weeks on the sidelines.

He has been told he will be out for a minimum of two weeks, depending on how he responds to treatment.

That means Shankland will definitely miss the league leader’s weekend trip to Morton and the home game with Alloa the following week.

The good thing for United head coach Robbie Neilson is that his team managed to see off Queen of the South without Shankland at the weekend.
