Lawrence Shankland in Belgian transfer link as Dundee United field bids for star striker

Dundee United striker Lawrence Shankland is reportedly the subject of an offer from Belgian side Beerschot, as well as clubs south of the border.

The Scotland international is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning this summer could be the club's last chance to cash in.

And, according to the Daily Mail, Shankland has an intriguing offer from overseas.

The newspaper reports Beerschot have made a bid of £500,000 for the striker, who has 40 goals in 74 appearances for United.

Ipswich Town and MK Dons are also said to be interested, as well as clubs in the English Championship.

But Shankland is believed to be intrigued by playing abroad, with the likes of David Bates, Jack Hendry and Ryan Gauld having succeeded overseas.

Beerschot finished ninth in Belgium's top flight last season and are looking to push further up the table in 2020-21.

Shankland first caught the eye with his prolific record for Ayr United in the lower leagues.

He hit 63 goals in just 74 games across League One and the Championship before moving to Tannadice.

His 24 goals in 26 appearances fired Dundee United to promotion, but Shankland managed just nine in the top flight.

The striker has been capped three times for Scotland and has one international goal to his name, the fourth in a 6-0 win over San Marino.
