Lawrence Shankland heading to Dundee United as Tannadice side beat Hull in race for striker

Dundee United have won the race to sign Lawrence Shankland.

The striker is set for a medical at St Andrews today after his deal at Ayr United expired.

Shankland, 23, has agreed a three-year contract with the Tannadice club after knocking back an offer from English Championship side Hull.

The frontman netted 38 goals for the Honest Men in a stunning season at Somerset Park.

In total he struck 67 goals over two campaigns for Ian McCall's men in a run of form which drew attention from a host of Championship clubs south of the border.

Swansea targeted the former Queen's Park, Aberdeen and St Mirren man for a £400,000 raid in January.

But it's Dundee United who have won the race as Robbie Neilson prepares the Tannadice men for a promotion push.

It is another marquee capture for United, who have already sign Adrian Sporle and Liam Smith.
