Lawrence Shankland gets Scotland call-up as Dundee United star rewarded for sensational form

Lawrence Shankland has been rewarded for his stunning form with a first Scotland call-up.

The Dundee United striker has netted 15 times in 12 games for the Tannadice men who sit top of the Championship.

Shankland's form has caught the attention of Celtic and Rangers both of whom had scouts at the weekend's 6-0 drubbing of Morton in which the 24-year-old hit a hat trick.

Now Record Sport can reveal that Steve Clarke has moved to include the on-fire hitman in his squad for this month's Euro 2020 qualifying double header against Russia and San Marino.

Scotland have struggled for goals in the absence of Leigh Griffiths with Sheffield United's Oli McBurnie still to find the net for his country.

The fact Shankland is playing in the second tier of Scottish football put some off the idea of including him in the national set-up.

But Clarke has made the call ahead of the trip to Russia next week.

Kieran Tierney, however appears to have missed out on a return to the national set-up.

The Arsenal full-back was being considered by Clarke for his first appearance in almost a year.

But he wasn't included in the Gunners' squad for last night's draw with Manchester United after making his debut against Nottingham Forest last week with doubts over his fitness.

And this month's double header appears to have come too soon for the former Celtic man.
