Law firm to hand hundreds of staff an extra week's pay to ease cost of living crisis

A Manchester law firm is to hand hundreds of its staff a one-off payment equivalent to one week's basic pay in a bid to ease the cost of living crisis.

Express Solicitors, the specialist personal injury and clinical negligence firm, will issue the payments in November in addition to any pay review increases, performance bonuses or Christmas bonuses paid to its lawyers and support staff.

The move is set to apply to over 430 employees at the firm.

Managing partner James Maxey said the move is a one off contribution to "recognise the value of our fantastic people, to go some way towards helping with the sharp cost of living rises this year, caused by factors outside of our control".

The firm said that staff earning £20,000 would receive a bonus payment of £337 after tax whereas those earning £50,000 would receive £722 net.

Express Solicitors Group achieved a turnover of £32.1m in its 2020/21 financial year, a rise of over 14%. The firm's latest 12-month period ended on August 31.

The firm added that it has expanded its workforce by 100 members of staff in the last year.
