Law firm's turnover tops £26m as investments strengthen regional commitment

Regional legal giant Wilkin Chapman has increased its turnover by 6.9 per cent to £26.3 million.

The Grimsby-based law firm, ranked just outside the top 100 firms in the UK, saw a further £1.7 million added to the revenues in the year to March 31.

Profits dipped from £9.7 million to £9.1 million for the period, with a strategic decision to “reinvest in this region, to which it is more committed than ever before” implemented.

It saw Doncaster-based insolvency practice Silke & Co acquired for £1 million, with headcount swelling to 404 from 354 over the year, with additional staff costs broadly on a par with the increase in turnover.

Offices in Lincoln were significantly expanded too, with major IT infrastructure improvements.

Senior partner Andrew Holt said the Cartergate House firm was proud to remain as a Top 200 UK law firm – 106th for a second successive year – “with a determination to invest and grow”.

It now has 46 partners with an overall staff of more than 450, underlining the acceleration since the financial year end.

“Wilkin Chapman continues to be committed to this region, ensuring that we explore new opportunities safe in the knowledge that we have the strength and breadth of expertise within our teams to do so,” he said. “This has been a year of positive growth, which is matched by a determination to put our employees, clients and communities at the top of our agenda.”

Last month saw the firm appear in the Times Best Law Firms 2020 list for the first time, on the strength of its corporate and commercial work, “which again is a reflection of the huge strides made in recent years,” Mr Holt added.

The firm is currently without chief executive, having parted company with Des Mannion in September, after four-and-a-half years at the helm.

It also has offices in Beverley, Louth, Horncastle and Alford.
