Law enforcement failed to protect children in Texas shooting

Families appreciate Attorney General's commitment to transparency and empathy.

In a recent press conference, lawyers representing the families of survivors and victims of a tragic incident shared their concerns and intentions to pursue potential legal action. The families, who have experienced tremendous loss, have engaged the assistance of two attorneys, who were identified as Erin Rogers and another unnamed counsel.

During the conference, it was emphasized that the families appreciate the commitment shown by the Attorney General in overseeing the investigation. Transparency and assurance that the government is genuinely concerned about the families' experiences hold great significance for them. This support from the Attorney General and the Department of Justice has been deeply appreciated, especially considering the limited support received from the state of Texas.

While the families did not require a comprehensive government report, they are eager to learn the details provided in the recently released report. Their reactions are primarily based on the information shared by the Attorney General and his team the previous night, shortly after the report became available. The families have a firsthand understanding of the failures of law enforcement on that day, as they were present during the tragic event.

The press conference also shed light on some crucial unanswered questions. The families questioned how a young 18-year-old could acquire such powerful weaponry. The individual in question was able to access a Daniel Defense AR-15 from a local store and subsequently acquired another one within a week. Additionally, the 18-year-old ordered an alarming number of 1,700 rounds of ammunition from an online dealer. The lawyers representing the families stressed the need for investigations into the means by which gun companies market their weapons to young individuals, as well as the role such marketing may have played in this particular case.

It was expressed that while law enforcement agencies did respond swiftly, the report does not address the significant issue at hand - the accessibility of firearms to minors. The families' attorneys highlighted that similar pleas from families affected by previous mass shootings, such as those from Sandy Hook and Parkland, have been disregarded by Congress. Despite the commitment and empathy shown by the current Attorney General and his team, the lawyers emphasized that tragic incidents like these could have been prevented if the government and the state had taken proper action, such as raising the minimum age to purchase firearms.

The press conference concluded with a reminder of the lives lost in this incident. The names of the victims, all young individuals, were listed as a poignant reminder of the consequences of inaction. The lawyers reiterated that if the government had heeded the pleas of previous grieving families, these lives would have been spared. Ultimately, the families and their legal representatives aim to seek justice and accountability for the loss they have endured.
