Law and District athletes return to competition in 'Together Apart' event

Law and District Amateur Athletics Club’s ‘Together Apart’ event hit the mark with club athletes earlier this month as stars took part in javelin and shot put events, as well as 200m and 800m races.

The day was a great success with graded Scottish Athletics officials attending to ensure our athletes results were eligible for ranking and there were many personal bests achieved.

This competition was the first in nearly two years for some of our athletes and they did themselves proud with a number of personal bests recorded.

With district championships and national events still unable to go ahead due to Covid restrictions, clubs have been encouraged to hold ‘Together Apart’ events and Law and District held their first meet at Wishaw Sports Centre.

Athletes were allowed to take part in one of four events – 200m, 800m, javelin or shot put – and there were some brilliant results.

In javelin, Ross Ferguson started the day off with a PB of 19.01m. Next up on the runway was Declan McClelland who continued to impress with a PB of 29.02m.

Fellow Thomas Lafferty also performed impressively and he produced three throws over 50m with a best of 51.48m.

Under-17 athlete Elizabeth Kay managed a great PB of 12.23m, which was an increase of almost 30% from her previous best performance.

Meanwhile, Under-13 star Johann Gillon who also set a new PB 19.01m while under-17 Miya Waldron produced a PB of 28.61m.

In the shot put, under-13 Kyle Ferguson was first to throw and he managed to produce a fantastic PB of 5.17m. Under-17 Jade Gray also managed to record a new PB of 11.20m.

Under-20 Shannon Gough recorded a best attempt of 8.42m while her sister Erin, under-13, managed a throw of 6.38m.

Seventeen athletes competed in the 800m event and a remarkable 13 of them posted personal best times.
