Law and District AAC did well at National Cross Country Relay Championships

Law and District Amateur Athletics Club teams did well at the National Cross Country Relay Championships in Cumbernauld.

Teams from across Scotland competed, with around 2600 athletes taking part, in what was the largest number of entries at the competition to date.

First up were the youngest of junior girls, with 99 teams competing, and all runners completing 2500m legs.

Law’s first team of Jessica Inglis, Hannah Todd and Jessie Gilchrist finished 25th, with Gilchrist earning herself a place in the top 10 with a great run of 10.08, which was the club’s fastest junior female run of the day.

Rachel Stevenson, Amanda Quinn and Nina Fyfe finished in 64th, followed in 76th place by Lindsay Wishart, Kirsty Currie and Rachel Donnelly; Wishart was competing in her first cross country event.

It was then the turn of the junior boys, with 115 teams in the field and all runners completing 2500m.

Ryan Kellock, Oscar Logan and Donald Gilchrist just missed out on a top-20 finish in 22nd, but Gilchrist earned the fastest run of the day in 8.59 mins.

Logan was hot on his heels, making the top ten for under-15 with a run of 9.03mins.

The team of Daniel Simpson, Craig Cherrie and Finn Milligan finished 64th, followed in 71st by Matthew Lee, Scott McAdam and Daniel Munday.

Blair Torlay, Daniel Lee and Robbie Nugent nudged out Blair Barrowman, Logan Whitton and Cameron Fry to finish in 90th and 91st, respectively.

The senior women’s team of Reagan Binnie, Margaret Newell and Pamela Newell were next, all running 4000m, and although they didn’t have a complete team, they all ran great races.

Senior woman Emily McNicol (pictured right) running for Strathclyde University, had a great run of 15.52mins in her 4km leg, with her team finishing in 20th place.

The senior men’s race saw under-20s run with older runners, and it was a great race.

Law’s team of James Gillon, Matthew Gillon, Johnny Kennedy and Darran Muir were 31st in a combined time of 55.57mins.

Under-20 runner James Gillon had perhaps the race of the day to finish the first leg of 4km in seventh place, in a time of 12.33.

Club president Karen Gillon said: “There was great support from family and friends, and for each other all over the course. Well done, everyone.”

Elsewhere, club member Paul White took part in his second marathon of 2019, completing the race in Frankfurt in a time of 2hrs 56mins.
