The breakout star of Orange Is the New Black, Laverne Cox, has become the first cast member announced for a new procedural drama being shot for CBS.

She will star in a pilot of the show Doubt, in which Cox will play the role of successful defense attorney Cameron Wirth. The show centres on her romantic relationship with a client, who may be guilty of a “brutal” crime, said the Hollywood Reporter.

Cox has not commented on the new role, but retweeted several media stories about the show that will be written by the husband-and-wife team of Tony Phelan and Joan Rater.

Since starring in Orange Is the New Black and becoming the first transgender actor to be nominated for an Emmy, Cox has been on the cover of Time magazine and been offered guest parts in shows such as The Mindy Project.

Cox is also set to return in the third season of Orange Is the New Black – where she plays the character of Sophia Burset – a show that proved to be a breakout role for her as she still waited tables during filming of the Netflix series, she said during an interview with Backstage magazine.
