LaVar Ball warns Anthony Davis of pressure of playing in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Lakers landed another superstar in Anthony Davis and while most fans are confident that he and LeBron James can compete for a championship as soon as next season, LaVar Ball isn’t convinced that Davis can handle being under the bright lights in Los Angeles.

After his youngest son LaMelo Ball’s game at the Drew League on Saturday, LaVar spoke to reporters and sent a message to Davis:

“He can’t shoot the Ball. Uh oh. He can’t shoot free throws. His body is going to wear down. That’s just what this game is about. As you get older, it’s harder to do that. The expectations, too? In L.A.? It’s a bit different. What I mean by that: A.D., ain’t nobody on you in New Orleans. There ain’t no red carpet out there. But I tell you what: In L.A., it can go from sugar to (expletive) real quick.”

It’s true that there is added pressure that comes with playing in Los Angeles, but it’s hard to imagine that Davis, a former No. 1 overall pick and perennial All-Star, will have a hard time adjusting. After all, he’s spent the first half of his career being the No. 1 option in New Orleans.

Davis might not hit the ground running in Los Angeles, but there’s reason to believe he’ll figure things out sooner rather than later.
