LaVar Ball and Donald Trump, despite having more in common than either would be willing to admit, having a past checkered with turmoil and disputes. LiAngelo Ball’s arrest in China and the ensuing chaos connected the two, leading to a long back-and-forth of he said, she said.
The result of it all is neither side thinking too fondly of one another, a point reiterated on a recent interview from LaVar and Tina Ball on Ball in the Family. The two were asked who they would be voting for in the 2020 election to which LaVar immediately stopped Tina from replying before adding a dig at the current President.
“Nope nope don’t say nothing. We don’t talk about nothing political on camera. Nothing. Leave it alone. We do it behind closed doors. But I tell you who I ain’t going to vote for: Trump.”
Tina reacted about as vigorously as LaVar did to the idea of voting for Trump as the family clearly has strong thoughts on him. Given their side of the story about LiAngelo’s arrest and subsequent release, it’s not hard to see why they wouldn’t think highly of Trump.
According to Ball in a past interview, Trump had little to do with the release of Ball and simply tried to ‘ride the coattails of the Balls.’
I didn’t even know he tweeted. Somebody told me like ‘Hey man did you hear what Trump said?’” I was like ‘Ohh nah.’ ‘He said he helped with the whole situation over there in China.’ I said ‘Hell nah.’ I said ‘How you gonna say you helped and you never shook my hand and said hey Mr. Ball, I’m coming over here directly for your son.’ Don’t just pop over and try to ride on the coattails of the Balls.
Hilariously, Ball did send Trump a pair of ZO2 shoes after the fiasco. Don’t expect a return gift from Trump or for either side to work out their differences.
