LaVar Ball on being banned from ESPN: ‘I don’t work for them’

During his most recent appearance on ESPN’s First Take, the usual headline machine LaVar Ball made a different kind of headline. Following what was deemed an inappropriate comment in-between segments, Ball was banned from further appearances on any of the ESPN family of networks indefinitely.

Ball has been rarely silent in the days since the incident until Saturday when a Twitter user caught up with him to ask him about the ban and the comments that got him banned.

How am I going to be banned? I don’t work for them. Said I’m going to banned from ESPN? I got my own show.

I don’t even have to respond to that on the fact that I meant no sexual intent on the fact that ‘switch gears’ means changing topics to me. Her mind in the gutter if she thinking something else. Only time I hit on her is if she’s breaking into my house and I mistake her for the Boogeyman.

Given quotes and scenes from Ball in the Family from Ball in the past about his family and his wife, one could assume Ball did not mean anything inappropriate by his comments.

But at best, Ball’s comments were remarkably tone deaf and a terrible choice of words. While he may not have felt the words he used were inappropriate, they were clearly interpreted in a different manner. That being said, it’s likely best for both parties, ESPN and Ball, to stay away from one another indefinitely and let the situation diffuse itself.
