LaVar Ball comes across as a decent person when talking about his family and his values. At the end of the day, he wants the best for his sons and his family, an admirable trait many people share.
The problem is that he rarely practices what he preaches. The most recent case of that is perhaps the most glaring and a serious case of foreshadowing. In the latest episode of Ball in the Family, LaVar sits his sons LaMelo and LiAngelo down to talk about life after amateur basketball while warning them of potential pitfalls.
To be as young as you are and to be as successful as you guys are, you guys are a target, man. There about to a lot of folks, people that’s close to you, you be like ‘I didn’t know they would do that. I didn’t know they would do that.’ So, be smart about what you got going on. And find out what people are about first.
Anyone tangentially aware of the situation around the Ball family and Big Baller Brand will find the irony in the above quote. A little research into LaMelo’s Instagram shows the trio was in Mexico on March 18. ESPN’s piece on Alan Foster dropped on March 26.
It’s possible LaVar already knew of the allegations levied against his fellow Big Baller Brand co-founder but considering that, in the episode, there’s a phone conversation between himself and Foster where everything appears normal, it’s very unlikely.
Instead, it’s another case of LaVar telling his kids to do as he says, not as he does.
