Lava erupts from Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano

The US Geological Survey recorded lava erupting from vents in the summit crater of Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano on Sunday.

The molten rock remains contained within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and poses no threat to homes or infrastructure.

Kilauea has been releasing lava at regular intervals since late last year, with scientists saying the magma continues to follow the same underground path to the surface.

The volcano lies on Hawaii Island, about 320 kilometers south of Honolulu.
