Lautaro Martinez's agent makes defining transfer statement amid Arsenal and Tottenham interest

Lautaro Martinez's future at Inter Milan has dominated the transfer rumour mill over the last few weeks.

football.london brought you the news earlier this month that Tottenham agreed a fee, believed to be in excess of €60million, for the Argentina international, but any deal was complicated due to Inter's recent sale of Romelu Lukaku.

So, Spurs have a definite interest in Martinez, but their north London rivals Arsenal have also been linked with a move for the talented 23-year-old.

Martinez has just under two years remaining on his contract with Inter, meaning the Italian champions will be determined to resolve the situation to prevent losing the Argentine for a reduced fee either this summer, or in 12 months' time.

Despite heavy speculation over his future, Martinez's agent Alejandro Camano has claimed his client wants to stay at the San Siro, as he believes in the project.

“Lautaro wants to stay at Inter, he trusts the project and wants to win,” Camano told FC Inter News.

“I’ll meet with the Inter board on Wednesday to talk about his contract situation. Premier League clubs wanted him but he’s ready to stay.”

Arsenal, who were beaten 2-0 at the hands of Premier League new boys Brentford on Friday evening, are still in the transfer market for some new additions before the window closes later this month.

Mikel Arteta is determined to bring a new creative midfielder to the Gunners, with Martin Odegaard looking the most likely to arrive at the Emirates Stadium before the August 31 deadline. A back-up goalkeeper is also being pursued by the north Londoners.

Meanwhile, at Spurs, it could also be a hectic last couple of weeks of the window. Fabio Paratici has been a busy man since arriving at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier in the summer and he could be set for a roller-coaster last few days.

Tottenham's main objective will to keep Harry Kane, but adding talent to play alongside the England captain will also be high up on their agenda.

It looks like neither north London club will be able to make a move for Martinez in the last two weeks of the summer transfer window, but it may be one to keep a close eye on.

If Martinez cannot reach an agreement with Inter Milan over extending his contract at the San Siro, then next summer will see him be in the final 12 months of his contract with the Italian club.
