Laurina sold for €290,000 to breeder who was underbidder for Michael O'Leary's Apple’s Jade

Laurina was sold for €290,000 to breeder Dougie Taylor at Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Sale on Monday night.

The Cheltenham Festival winner was recently retired after being moved from Willie Mullins' yard to Paul Nicholls'.

She ran just once for the English trainer, finishing 46 lengths last of three runners in the Coral Hurdle at Ascot last month.

Laurina emphatically won the Mares' Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2018 and finished fourth behind Espoir D'Allen in the Champion Hurdle 12 months later.

Taylor bought her after missing out on Apple's Jade at last week's Goffs December National Hunt sale.

The 11-time Grade 1 winner was sold by Michael O'Leary's Gigginstown House Stud to trainer Gordon Elliott on behalf of Noel and Valerie Moran's Bective Stud for €530,000.

Laurina is now set for a date with Jet Away, who Taylor owns in partnership with Eoin Banville.

Nicholls took to Twitter to announce her retirement last month, saying: "After discussions over the weekend it has been decided that after she bled again on Saturday, to retire wonderful racemare Laurina.

“Her next appearance will be at the Tattersalls Ireland breeding sale on December 14th.”
