Laurent Koscielny 'reaches agreement with Rennes' as defender plots Arsenal exit

Arsenal skipper Laurent Koscielny has reportedly reached a contractual agreement with Rennes .

The 33-year-old refused to travel with the Gunners on their pre-season tour of the United States after his request to leave the club was supposedly rejected.

Koscielny has just one year remaining on his current deal in North London, but appears to be pushing hard for a return to his native France with two Ligue 1 clubs reportedly keen to secure his services.

According to RMC Sport , the defender has been in negotiations with Rennes while Bordeaux have also shown interest in signing him.

The source claims an agreement has been reached between the club and the player and the two parties must now wait to see if Arsenal will approve the deal.

It was revealed last week that Unai Emery tried to convince Koscielny on several occassions to change his mind and travel with the squad for pre-season.

After the Gunners began their tour with a 3-0 victory over Colorado Rapids , Emery admitted he was unable to win over his captain.

The Spaniard said: "He started training with us this pre-season and I spoke with him three times for his situation. We wanted him to come with us on this tour but he decided to stay.

"Now it is a matter for the club and for the player. We spoke with a good spirit for both the team and him but this is his decision, only his decision. He's speaking only with the club."

Arsenal have enjoyed a strong pre-season and built on their win over Colorado Rapids with further victories against Bayern Munich and Fiorentina .

They will face Real Madrid in their next pre-season outing on Wednesday as they continue to participate in the annual International Champions Cup .

The Gunners begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to Newcastle United on Sunday 11th August with kick-off at 14.00.
