Laurent Koscielny drops Instagram hint as Arsenal captaincy row continues

Arsenal centre-back Laurent Koscielny has made a pointed update to his official social media account after refusing to take part in the club's pre-season tour.

The Frenchman told Unai Emery and the rest of the squad that he would not travel to the USA other demands that his contract be terminated early.

He has one year left on his deal at the Emirates and wants to go to France to see out his playing career.

Amid fury from fans of the Gunners over his conduct as captain, Koscielny took to Instagram to update his account.

In addition to changing his profile picture to show him with the armband, he also added a mischevious emoji to his profile text.

He also apparently chose to add a pair of eyes, usually associated with a sideways glance, alongside the tag for Arsenal's own Instagram account.

Club legend Ian Wright has spoken out about Koscielny and his status at the Emirates.

"It doesn't set a good example, Arsenal need to do something quick," he said on his YouTube channel.

"For our captain to refuse to go on a pre-season tour after nine years of unbelievable service, to kind of destroy your legacy a little bit in respect of refusing to play for a club that you've professed love for, is something that is baffling me.

"You're the one we chose as our captain, our leader, and now we're going into pre-season with our captain refusing to go on the tour. How do you think that looks?

"This is something I cannot get my head around. I pray to god it can be resolved sooner rather than later. Whether staying or going. I am so disappointed in your decision to do this at this time.

"I love you Laurent but this is a poor decision."
