Laurens De Bock virtually ends Leeds United tenure with fresh loan to Zulte Waregem

Laurens De Bock’s Leeds United tenure is virtually at an end with confirmation he will join Zulte Waregem on loan for another season.

The left-back has 12 months remaining on the contract he signed in January 2018, but has always looked surplus to requirements under Marcelo Bielsa.

This new loan deal will take De Bock to the end of his Elland Road deal and while it does not secure a transfer fee, it eases the wages United would have paid had he stayed put.

De Bock featured regularly in Belgian First Division A with Waregem last term, making 31 starts and saw just three players with more minutes than him.

While De Bock’s previous loan spell technically ended with the conclusion of the Belgian season in April, the clubs reached an agreement to allow the 28-year-old to start pre-season before a new loan arrangement was reached.

Reports in Belgium had suggested Waregem may look to negotiate a permanent transfer after declining to execute their option to buy on terms agreed 12 months earlier.

However, it is a loan once more which has been agreed upon. De Bock has made seven appearances for Leeds, all in the Championship in 2017/18.
