Laurence Llewelyn Bowen warns of 'extraordinarily bad' reactions on new Changing Rooms

Laurence Llewelyn Bowen has teased that viewers can expect some "extraordinary" reactions from contestants who "don't hold back on any level" on the new series of Changing Rooms.

The 56-year-old interior designer is the only star from the original show, which aired from 1996 to 2004, to return for the Channel 4 revamp, which debuts later this month.

Anna Richardson will be replacing original host Carole Smilie to present the programme, which originally aired on BBC One and Two.

Appearing on This Morning, Lawrence admitted that he felt like "an elderly retired warhorse" when he began filming the new show.

He admitted felt "way too old" to be on the show, saying: "Last time i was painting scenes, I was 37 and now I'm 57!"

However, Lawrence said: "The minute we started I couldn't leave anything alone. It all had that brilliant sense of camaraderie... it was like a rock 'n' roll tour, or a freak show!"

Giving his opinion on new designers, Jordan Cluroe, Russell Whitehead and carpenter Tibby Singh, Lawrence said: "They're massive on Instagram and what's been really weird is that they've grown up with Changing Rooms."

Probed by host Ruth Langsford about whether anything had gone wrong during the new series, like the iconic teapot scandal, he said: "It's all about the experience of what they're doing.... Changing Rooms is so rock 'n' roll."

Like the original series, contestants are only given two days to do up their neighbours' rooms.

"We wanted to do rooms that were a bit aspirational," Lawrence explained, saying that they wanted the craftsmanship to be better this time round. "We could create things that had a bit of longevity."

Asked whether anyone hated the transformations this time round, Lawrence said: "Tt's extraordinary, i've never seen reactions like this before.

"They're not holding back on any level, and that's positive or negative."
