Laurence Fox quotes Martin Luther King after Question Time racism row backlash

Laurence Fox shared a Martin Luther King quote as he hit back at those calling him racist following a heated row on BBC's Question Time.

The Lewis star was branded a 'white privileged male' in a heated row with an audience member and has since been targeted online.

Academic Rachel Boyle had argued on the show that Meghan Meghan was "torn to pieces" after she agreed to be prince Harry's wife.

She added: "And let's be really clear about what this is, let's call it by its name, it's racism. She's a black woman and she has been torn to pieces."

But the 41-year-old actor replied: "It's not racism, you can't call...it's not racism. No it's not. We are the most tolerant lovely country in Europe.

"It's so easy to throw the charge of racism at everybody and it's really starting to get boring now."

The discussion on the panel show has prompted furious debate online.

Laurence tweeted yesterday: "To be clear, I am in no way having the best day of my life ever drinking all these leftist tears.

"My cup it overfloweth. But please don't stop."

In his post, he also attached a picture of Dr Martin Luther King's famous 'I have a dream' speech as he explained: "This is the position I took last night and I live by in life.

"If you can improve on it, I'm all ears.

"Or you can keep screeching 'Racist!' at me and I can carry on having a jolly good giggle at your expense.

"The tide is turning."

Ms Boyle, who works as a lecturer at Edge Hill University, also tweeted after the Question Time.

She wrote: "Fell out with @LozzaFox (not a***d), upset a (majority white) audience (not a***d) but called the treatment of Meghan Markle what it is 'racism'.

"Thank yo to @bbcquestiontime for having me."
